This morning I woke up to an account suspended notification from my web hosting (IX if anyone is interested) It appears a database was hacked through no fault of mine – but I am still responsible. (It was an old database that was no longer in use and had nothing to do with WordPress) It also appears this was our 3rd TOS violation and therefore their 3 strikes and your out rule applies. (One TOS was a shoutbox my son installed on his website and took down as soon as he was able to figure out that it was causing more than a “average” cpu load.) The other? who knows… it appears to be another hacker issue back in February. So, they suspended the account. This means ALL the data was lost from this website and our others. (I know… backups…. ) They suspend your account and you have NO access to your files – PERIOD. And there is no flexibility there… no sympathy, no concern, and most defiantly no help. If you use IX PLEASE be aware. This does seem to be a standard for a lot of the lower cost web hosting sites. It really is true that you get what you pay for. To be fair to IX their TOS clearly states their policy but since I am not a hacker – but just an average user who is learning things as I go along – I am not going to be able to fix security issues with the software I use! So, this is just a warning to all you out there. Read your TOS and backup everything. Also do a web search on IX hosting – It appears that they have had huge issues with hackers in the last few months…. Makes you wonder how many folks like me had to deal with their less than likable folks in customer service. The web host I moved to is Media Temple for those interested. So far the customer service has been excellent. I had a set up issue, I had them on the phone in a few mins. and they followed up with an email with details of the phone conversation - how awesome is that? So, if you clicked on my site and it wasn’t up – well, now you know the rest of the story…….
